With the football season nearly upon us, we thought we’d take the time to end the debate on why college football is better than pro football. Oh, we aren’t saying that pro football does not have its merits, or that college football does not have its faults. (Two faults being the football field at Boise State University and the football field at Eastern Washington University. (Cover your eyes!))
After that, the edge goes to college football:
- In college, players only play for four years. The landscape of college football is always changing.
- Real halftime shows with real marching bands
- Rivalries in college football are better than any rivalry in pro football
- College tradions such as the Gator chomp, dotting the Ohio State “i,” coming down the hill at Clemson, etc, are better than anything seen in the NFL.
- Tailgating at pro games is the minor league when compared to tailgating at colleges. In the pros, fans arrive hours before the game. In college, fans arrive days before the game.
- College football doesn’t have a preseason. Pro football charges the same ticket prices for games that don’t mean anything.
- In college football, the championship game is what people talk about. In pro football’s championship game, the talk is “did you see that commercial?”
- In college, the players play for the name on the front of the jersey. In pro football, the players play for the name on the back of the jersey.
- College football is better than pro football because of the Florida Gators and SEC football.
- College football has cute cheerleaders who actually cheer. Pro football has dancers who look as if they would be at home on a stripper pole.
- College football: “MY TEAM! DO OR DIE!” Pro football: “They paid a kicker 5 million a year? And he misses an extra point?”
- College football rewards teams that had a good year with a bowl game – not a “wild card birth.”
- In college you are your team. You are a Florida Gator. You are a Maryland Terrapin. You are a UCLA Bruin. In pro football, you aren’t a Washington Redskin or Dallas Cowboy. (And no one in their right mind would want to be.)

You left out the other Florida Teams. Florida State was able to stand up to the PC cops when the Seminol tribe told them to bugger off. What NFL team was able to tell the PC cops the same.
