America before can be America again

By Steve Bussey

I feel it is important in this presidential election year to put things into the proper perspective so we can honestly debate Conservatism, or as I call it, Americanism, versus the political left including progressivism – liberalism – socialism.

What we now call “Conservatism” is what made America the greatest, freest, strongest and richest nation in the history of the world. But, you know what the problems are now. In your heart and soul, even if you cannot articulate it, you know what the problems are.

Schools are seizing homemade lunches from students and school officials are openly stating that parents don’t always know what is best for their children – only the trained, professional “educators” know what is best. After all, they study it. The problem with that, of course, is akin to the old saying about computers, garbage in – garbage out.

Childhood lemonade stands have been shut down. Parents are being investigated for normal and traditional discipline. Increasing amounts of personal income are seized through taxes for the redistribution of wealth and social engineering versus to pay for the legitimate functions of government.

Capitalism is under attack and both major political parties in America are debating degrees of totalitarianism versus even giving so much as lip service to freedom.

We in America have devolved into debating emotion versus fact, logic and reason.

Americans are being told by an oppressive central government what amount of income is “fair,” what to think, how to speak, how, when and where to pray, our Supreme Law of the Land – the Constitution – adherence to which is the only thing between us and tyranny – is being called old, outdate and “terse” not just by liberal pundits but at least one Supreme Court justice sworn to protect and defend that Constitution.

At least one Republican candidate for president – Mitt Romney – is claiming the 10th Amendment gave him the authority to mandate citizens purchase a commercial product while completely dismissing the 9th Amendment and the entire American ideal and system of government – the heart and soul of our American philosophy – individual liberty.

What once was right – and historically proven to be right – is now wrong and that which is historically proven wrong is being called right.

Modern America is cursed with politicians versus blessed with statesmen.

And the beat goes on …

America became the richest, freest, strongest and greatest nation in the history of the world before the 1930’s and FDR, liberalism, progressivism, socialism or any of the current political philosophies and policies of the political left including the so-called social safety net.

Before the progressive movement in America gained any influence or power we had already built the Erie Canal, the transcontinental railroad; become a world power that defeated Mexico in the Mexican-American War, conquered the West, defeated Spain in the Spanish-American War, Henry Ford automated the assembly line, the Wright Brothers flew, New York City became the financial capitol of the world and so much more.

Before liberalism, progressivism and socialism in America society was not perfect or necessarily “fair” and there was suffering, but we were free. Now, society in America is not perfect or necessarily “fair” and people are suffering but now we are not free.

Progressivism did not free the slaves or lead to civil rights “progress.” Those things were accomplished by Conservative Christians in the abolitionist movement and Conservative Republicans in the modern era – Eisenhower – Senator Everett Dirksen – Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan over Democrat and progressive objections.

Before the progressive era in America a 9th Grade education actually meant something. My paternal grandmother graduated the 9th Grade in Oklahoma around 1916 or 1917 and went on to obtain her teaching certificate. But after decades of liberalism in America the average college student cannot pass the 1895 Kansas State graduation test and an associate degree from most community colleges is more akin to an old high school diploma, if that.

By the way, Snopes.com – that liberal bastion of so-called fact checking – considers my above statement false because, as they claim, being able to pass that Kansas State test is contingent upon what you have recently studied and modern students study modern things.

However, you take a look at the test yourself and see if your children are learning that level of basic material in class.

A modern educator will tell you how much better education is now than just 20 or 30 years ago, but ask yourself this question; how much better is education now than in 1890 or even just 40 and 50 years ago? Sorry, but it is dramatically worse since liberals took control of American education.

Before social progressivism and liberalism in America we had strong nuclear families – the very basis of Western Civilization. However, after the liberal social revolutions of the 60’s and 70’s every single “social indicator” is now worse just as conservatives warned would happen.

Before the progressive movement changed America we defeated Great Britain, France, Spain, the Barbary Pirates (twice), Britain again, the international slave trade, Mexico, and when European powers could only fight to a stalemate at best in WW I and WW II America came in and led the defeat of fascism and Imperial Japan.

America fed and protected the world long before progressives ever gained political power in America and we did it through our system of constitutionally protected freedoms. We did it through individual liberty versus collectivism. We did it through a system that bore true faith and allegiance to freedom versus some blind, collective belief in the fatherland and some adherence to an ill defined “social justice” or someone’s obtuse definition of “fairness.”

We became the best country in the history of the world without a tyrannical centralized government picking winners and losers by dividing the fruits of our individual labor and controlling our behavior through fascism.

It is more important now than ever that Conservatives, not Republicans but Conservatives, change and control the debate by changing what and how we debate.

We have to call a lie a lie. We have to remind people of actual historical facts, such as those above, and we have to do it in ways that speak to the common sense of our friends, neighbors, coworkers and others we meet in our daily lives.

The fight is upon us, so arm yourselves with facts and take control of the debate. Abide not a single lie, not a single false appeal to emotion, not a single distortion of historical fact, and abide not any derision of our Supreme Law of the Land, remember, if our Constitution is outdate then our brilliant Founding Fathers gave us a method by which to update it – the amendment process.

Take back America right here, right now and be fearless in your fight. Do not dishonor the memory of our Founders and your own ancestors.
