Religious Freedom for some ends August 1st

By Steve Bussey

The 1st Amendment to the Constitution of the United States begins with an unambiguous declaratory statement:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…” But. . .

According to the Heritage Foundation, religious liberty will end for some employers August 1st:

Two days from now, employers across America will become vulnerable to crushing government penalties for exercising their religious freedom. This isn’t exactly what lawmakers advertised when they pushed Obamacare, but it is part of the Obama Administration’s agenda—forcing nearly all employers to pay for abortion-inducing drugs, contraception, and sterilization services.

Beginning August 1, employers must amend their health insurance offerings to include these drugs and services. And if they don’t? How about a fine of $100 per employee per day for non-compliance. This outrageous policy makes it impossible for employers to afford the fine—meaning they must change their insurance policies or stop offering health coverage to their workers.

How do you freely exercise your religion? Does “the free exercise thereof” simply mean going to church every Saturday or Sunday or does it have to do with the way in which you live your life every day and conduct business and interpersonal relationships?

Of course, our modern American government at all levels already infringes our freedom of religion daily all across our once great nation. Graduating seniors cannot thank Jesus in their speeches, candycanes have been outlawed in some school districts, children are punished for drawing religious pictures and writing religious-based essays in their school work, and so much more.

In each and every case above a Christian is prohibited from the free exercise of their religion and we all just take it for granted. They are not allowed by government to put their religion into practise. But as most usurpations of liberty often do, this one may be coming to a head.

A family run business has recently won an injunction from a federal judge forstalling the government implementation of this rule against there business, but is that enough? Will they prevail in their case. The truth is of course they should but the shame is that they shouldn’t have to in the first place.

If we had honorable men and women in Congress and the presidency more concerned with Liberty than their nebulous idea of fairness then this wouldn’t even be an issue.

But sadly and dangerously, it is an issue because American politics is filled with tyrants and despots such as Obama, Reid, Pelosi and Bloomberg.

Some compare Obama to Nero with respect to the economy and say he fiddles while America burns. But to me, the truth is that American citizens have fiddled for decades while our Liberty burned in the ovens of tyranny.

I do not believe we would even have approached this dangerous point in our religious freedom had we been more vigilant over the years. Had we been more willing to speak up, protest and do everything the political left in America has done since at least the 1960s then this would not even be an issue.

How will we act going forward?

This is a great example of how people have had enough. There might be hope after all.
This maybe about free speach but free speach leads to the freedom to proclaim your beliefs in public.
