Shawn Dunham and Voices of a Grateful Nation

By Steve Bussey

UPDATE: We took out the Youtube.com video due to reports of the web site loading slowly. We encourage everyone to check Youtube.com for Shawn Dunham. The radio pod cast is at the bottom of this article.

Last Saturday on the Steve Bussey Radio Experience we were privileged to interview U.S. Army Sergeant Shawn Dunham, an Iraq War veteran of two deployments and who is involved in a very special project helping himself while helping other Vet’s.

Shawn is involved with a couple of groups that bring together musicians and our veterans to teach vet’s how to write music and play guitar in order to express their emotions of war and as we all know, music hath charms to soothe the savage beast.

Everyone wishing to participate, donate or just learn more about these programs can visit Voices of a Grateful Nation and About Soldier Songs

SoldierSongs exists to serve our nations military heroes with FREE music lessons, instruments when necessary, and a means of creative expression. We are musicians, grateful to the men and women of our armed services for the freedoms we enjoy as a result of their sacrifice. We proudly offer Veterans and musicians alike an opportunity to share with each other the incredible powers of expression and camaraderie that only music offers. We owe them this at very least, for all they have already given us!

Here is the pod cast of our interview with Shawn last Saturday:

Thank you for supporting our program. Every week, I see these folks getting their lives back more and more. Regaining their speech, their short term memory, their marriages. I’ve seen many of them laugh and cry more than their own therapists have. I’ve begun recording some of these songs they’ve been writing. They are amazing pieces of work. And for them to have this thing, this nice, neat little package that sums up their experiences, for them to have this to share with their loved ones and the world, it’s heavy, man. I’d like to begin sending some of these your way, so lemme know how to go about it. Much obliged, Dustin Welch
