The Democrat Party: The Antithesis of America

By Steve Bussey

Thankfully, the Democrat National Convention is finally over, and I have to say I found it to be a parade of un-American, anti-American clowns, collectivists, closed-minded bigots and self-righteous indignation – as well as liars and misogynists.

It is not at all out of line to call President Obama and the modern Democrat Party un-American or even anti-American. In fact; they are the antithesis of America and trying to turn us into something never intended through “fundamental transformation.”

Delegates to the Democrat Convention Wednesday night voted against, and then booed, the inclusion of “God” in the Democrat Party Platform. According to the Gallup Polling agency more than 9 out of 10 Americans believe in God.

American Founding Father John Adams said:

“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

At their convention Democrats extolled the virtues of abortion – killing innocent unborn children. But in 2009 the Gallup agency reported that 51% of Americans consider themselves pro-life and only 42% “pro-choice.”

Democrats celebrate gay marriage but in all 32 states where gay marriage was put on the ballot, it failed. Americans in 32 states have rejected this part of the Democrat’s agenda.

I understand that in our representative republic it is a proper function of the majority to protect the rights of the minority. But the devil is in the details and the detail here is the correct definition of “rights.”

Democrats believe in the “rich” paying “their fair share” in order to redistribute the wealth through welfare programs, education and more, and that is diametrically opposed to our American foundations.

James Madison, the undisputed Father of the Constitution, stated:

“I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents.”

We all want to help feed the hungry, heal the sick, clothe the naked and house the homeless but as the old saying goes, anything worth doing is worth doing right. We have to do those things within the law and the context of our American ideals of liberty.

Charity is from the heart and not at the tip of the government sword.

Democrats believe in concentrating power in Washington, D.C. and the Obama Administration is suing several states in order to enforce a warped and unconstitutional belief in federal supremacy. In-turn, several states are suing the federal government in order to maintain their constitutionally protected sovereignty.

As Thomas Jefferson correctly warned:

“When all government, domestic and foreign, in little as in great things, shall be drawn to Washington as the center of all power, it will render powerless the checks provided of one government on another, and will become as venal and oppressive as the government from which we separated.”

The president has made a rule that directly contradicts the Catholic Church’s religious beliefs and adversely impacts the Church’s ability to freely exercise its religious beliefs – the contraception mandate – in direct violation of our 1st Amendment.

Democrats such as Bill Clinton distort and even oppose the traditional meaning of American shared responsibility and prosperity when Clinton said things in his speech such as,

Now — but he has — he has laid the foundations for a new, modern, successful economy of shared prosperity.

…a 21st-century version of the American dream, a nation of shared opportunities, shared responsibilities, shared prosperity, a shared sense of community.

… But if you want a country of shared opportunities and shared responsibility, a we’re-all-in-this-together society, you should vote for Barack Obama and Joe Biden.

If — if you want a future of shared prosperity…

Shared responsibility and prosperity in the American context means each person working to fulfill their own responsibilities and taking care of their own business without placing any burden of their fellow citizen.

When one individual or family prospers by taking care of their own responsibilities then society prospers.

And never mind the fact that our federal government has no legitimate – legal – authority to do what the Democrats want to do. As Thomas Jefferson understood:

“Congress has not unlimited powers to provide for the general welfare but only those specifically enumerated.”

It does not matter to me which political party is correct regarding how best to “fix” our economy. What matters to me is which political party can best “fix” our Liberty and restore our American context, and that is not the Democrat Party.
